PT Swadaya Indopalma Extinguishes Fires in Santan Sari and Tanjung Lago Villages
Banyuasin - PT Swadaya Indopalma (SIP)'s concern for the surrounding community during the dry season deserves commendation. Recently, the palm oil plantation company assisted community of two villages, Santan Sari and Tanjung Lago, in extinguishing a blaze.
Heru Purnomo, General Estate Manager of PT SIP, explained that the fires were caused by the dry season, which pushed temperatures up to 35-37 degrees Celsius. This condition was exacerbated by prolonged periods of high heat, exceeding 10 hours.
"We haven't found any other causes or human negligence related to the fires. Our assistance in extinguishing the fires is a form of the company's concern," said Heru.
Heru revealed that the company has prepared several measures and strategies to anticipate fires in the PT SIP HGU area, including the establishment of three firefighting teams. Each team consists of 15 members, all of whom have received firefighting training certification.
"One staff member who has undergone fire safety training leads the firefighting team in responding to fires in the PT SIP HGU area and its surroundings," explained Heru.
For nearby villages, the PT SIP firefighting team coordinates with local village governments, Babinsa (village defense system personnel), Babin Kamtibmas (community security and order assistants), and village fire-conscious citizens.
Furthermore, in addition to providing firefighting equipment, Heru also urged and encouraged staff and employees to be vigilant against forest, land, and plantation fires (Karhutlabun). He also asked the surrounding community working at PT SIP to socialize the issue of Karhutlabun in their villages and simultaneously form a community of fire-conscious citizens.
"PT SIP has provided assistance to Sungai Rengit Village in the form of a fire engine and hose, which we provide to help with firefighting when there is a fire. Let's be vigilant against Karhutlabun and maintain stamina, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, and don't go home until the fire is out," concluded Heru.
