PT Patiware Collaborates with Mutiara Pesisir Cooperative to Optimize Mud Crab Cultivation in Karimunting Village
Bengkayang, West Kalimantan - PT Patiware is empowering the community of Karimunting Village, Bengkayang Regency, through mud crab cultivation as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. Under this CSR program, the company has provided facilities such as cages and mud crab seeds to the Mutiara Pesisir Cooperative on Friday (09/08/2024).
This activity was attended by various parties, including the Bengkayang Fisheries and Marine Service, representatives from local government, police, and the village. Sungai Raya Kepulauan Sub-district Head, Usman Yahya, greatly appreciated PT Patiware's initiative and saw the great potential of mud crab cultivation, not only as an economic source but also as a tourist destination.
Usman Yahya, who also represented the Regent of Bengkayang, suggested that the Mutiara Pesisir Cooperative should not limit themselves to crab cultivation. He saw great potential for developing processed products from mud crabs and turning the cultivation area into an educational tourism destination, given the presence of mangroves in the area.
"With proper planning and adequate facilities, we can attract many visitors, especially from urban areas. This place has the potential to become an educational hub for mud crab cultivation. Given the mangrove ecosystem, there are endless possibilities for future development," added Usman Yahya.
PT Patiware Regional Head, Agus Budi Santoso, reaffirmed the company's commitment to supporting community empowerment. He hopes that this mud crab cultivation will not only improve people's welfare but also become an example of sustainable natural resource management.
In addition, Darius, a representative from PT. Patiware, also explained that the assistance provided was not only physical facilities but also included training and knowledge transfer to KUB members.
"A sustainable mud crab cultivation empowerment method has been carefully designed to ensure the sustainability of the cultivation business. Through a holistic and sustainable approach, members of the Cooperative are invited to be actively involved in the entire process, from maintenance to marketing the results," said Darius.
Mud crab cultivation offers significant economic opportunities in West Kalimantan. In addition to supplying the local market, processed mud crab products can be a valuable souvenir from the mangrove tourism area in Karimunting Village.
