PT BSU's CSR Program Empowers Indigenous Children through Education
BATANGHARI - PT Berkat Sawit Utama (BSU), a palm plantation and palm oil mill company, is making a tangible difference in the lives of the Indigenous People (SAD) community in Bungku Village, Batanghari Regency. Recognizing the lack of formal education opportunities for SAD children, BSU has initiated a comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program that is empowering these young minds through access to quality education.
The program, spearheaded by dedicated BSU employee Mr. Mahmuddin Nasution, began in 2015 with a focus on teaching the children to recite the Iqro', a foundational text for learning the Quran. As the program gained momentum, it expanded to include instruction in reading, writing, counting, and the fundamentals of Islam.
The enthusiasm for learning among the SAD children has been remarkable. The initial group of 10 has grown to 14, and the program has instilled in them a thirst for knowledge and a desire to pursue further education. To support their aspirations, BSU provides free transportation to and from school, uniforms, stationery, textbooks, and Iqro' books.
The impact of the CSR program extends beyond the classroom. It has fostered a sense of community and collaboration within the SAD settlement, strengthening bonds and nurturing a shared vision for a brighter future. BSU's commitment to social responsibility is evident in the words of Sr Manager SSL Mr. Syahro Abdullah, who states, "With this CSR program, SAD children can enjoy education like other children and be free from illiteracy."
PT BSU's CSR program serves as a model for corporate social responsibility, demonstrating the power of education to transform lives and uplift communities. By empowering the SAD children of Bungku Village through access to knowledge and skills, BSU is investing in their future and the future of their community.
