Forest Fire Drill Strengthens Synergy for Sustainable Forest Protection

Sambas, June 12, 2024 – Desa Sijang witnessed a solid collaboration between PT Sentosa Asih Makmur (SAM) and PT Perkebunan Anak Negeri Pasaman (PANP) in conducting a forest and land fire (Karhutla) firefighting simulation.

The simulation involved community leaders from five surrounding villages: Sijang, Sungai Palah, and Galing in Galing District, and Senujuh and Semanga in Sejangkung District.

This simulation went beyond a routine exercise; it was a concrete step to prepare responsive human resources capable of anticipating and handling potential forest fires that could threaten the sustainability of natural resources.

The full support of the local government was evident in the active participation of the Head of the Bimas Unit of the Galing Polsek, Babinsa, and the Head of Senujuh Village, who played a pivotal role in the success of this event.

According to Abdul Rahman, a representative of PT SAM and PT PANP, the companies have a strong commitment to implementing a zero-fire disaster policy in their concession areas. "We focus not only on responsiveness but also on preventive efforts that involve active community participation in fire and haze prevention," he emphasized.

The Head of Senujuh Village, Karnawan, welcomed the simulation and stressed the importance of cooperation between companies and communities. "We will continue to educate the community not to burn land indiscriminately, as the impact is not only detrimental to the companies but also to the entire surrounding community," he said.

The Kanit Bimas of the Galing Polsek, Aipda Rio Setiawan, expressed his appreciation to the companies for carrying out this activity and urged them to tighten supervision of activities that could lead to fires, causing environmental damage and disrupting health.

The simulation showcased a scenario of quick and effective fire extinguishing, involving field personnel, firefighters, and security personnel. This effort aimed not only to protect the plantation area but also to preserve the environment, flora, and fauna around the company's premises and surrounding villages.

As a form of ongoing commitment, PT SAM and PT PANP plan to continue holding similar training and simulations to maintain the sustainability of their plantation operations and protect the environment from the threat of Karhutla.

This initiative is expected to not only minimize the risk of forest and land fires but also raise awareness of the importance of protecting nature for the benefit of all.

With strong cooperation between companies, the government, and local communities, the hope for a greener and more sustainable future in Sambas Regency becomes increasingly tangible.
